UK weekly game sales remain steady during heat wave

The UK video games market weekly value has dropped just one per cent following last week’s heat wave.

According to MCV calculations, based on today’s Gfk-ChartTrack/ELSPA weekly report, 20.1 million for the weekend ending July 4th. Unit sales dipped two per cent to 836,461.

Game sales are typically low during nice weather, which makes last week’s performance all the more remarkable, with the UK enjoying a summer heat wave.

Sales were aided by new releases including Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Tiger Woods and Call of Juarez: Bound In Blood.

However, the release schedule is looking sparse over the coming weeks. Next week The Conduit is the only big console release, although expectations are high for Nintendo’s Wii Sports Resort, which is due on July 24th.
