Updated: FIFA 17 shoots to No.1 in the UK

Update:GfK has been in touch to set the record straight about FIFA 17’s sales performance.

Due to the fact the research firm increased its market coverage in 2014,from 90 per cent to 95 per cent,in terms of extrapolated sales FIFA 13 still has the best-selling Week One for the series. But in terms of unit sales through its panel of retailers, FIFA 17 claims the best debut.

The firm says that FIFA 13 and 17 both sold similar amounts, meaning that the aforementioned five per cent change makes a difference.

Though both games sold similar amounts physically, given the rise of the digital market during this four year period, it’s entirely possible that FIFA 17 is the better selling title overall.

Original story:

The latest entry in EA’s blockbuster football title has broken franchise records.

FIFA 17’s Week One sales performance was 18 per cent higher than last year’s FIFA 16, with GfK Entertainment saying that this latest entry ‘edged’ past the previous record holder, FIFA 13’s, debut performance.

Despite Microsoft bundling the football title with the Xbox One S, PS4 took the biggest slice of sales with 53 per cent of the total.

Xbox One still accounts for 40 per cent, with PS3 and 360 claiming a combined six per cent.

Another new title, Forza Horizon 3, debuted in second place. This new entry in the series is also the third best-selling Week One for the Forza series – both Motorsport and Horizon – to date.

Retail promotions helped LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens return to third place as sales rocked up 127 per cent. Last week’s No.3, BioShock: The Collection, saw a sales decline of 43 per cent as it slips to fourth place.

The console release of XCOM 2 debuts in fifth place, while the latest Destiny SKU – The Collection – falls three places to No.7 with a 24 per cent sales decline.

Below is the software Top Ten for the week ending October 1st:

1. FIFA 17, EA
2. Forza Horizon 3, Microsoft
3. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Warner Bros
4. BioShock: The Collection, 2K Games
