A number of customers who had pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain have had their orders cancelled.
GameSpot reports that’s GAME’s communication to customers had blamed either a failed payment or an issue with the delivery address. In several instances customers have disputed the claims, saying that payments details and addresses are correct.
The problem is a particular issue for many customers as the Collector’s Edition is widely out of stock online. And with the game out on Tuesday (September 1st), those hoping to secure a copy online for release day face a race to secure one.
MCV has contacted GAME but it yet to receive a reply.
UPDATE 1: While MCV is yet to hear back, GAME has told GameSpot that up to 370 customers who ordered the standard edition of the game have had their pre-orders cancelled. It has not, however, commented on the issues with the Collector’s Edition.
"Regrettably, due to a technical issue with our computer systems, 370 customers who pre-ordered the Metal Gear Solid V Standard Edition have had their orders incorrectly charged," it said. "Our customer service and store teams are currently working to contact all those impacted and refund any over payment. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
UPDATE 2:MCV has now received a statement from GAME, and interestingly it is subtly different to the one given to GameSpot. All of which has added to the confusion.
Regrettably due to a technical issue with our computer systems, 371 customers who pre-ordered the Metal Gear Solid V Hardware Edition have had their orders incorrectly charged. Our customer service and store teams have been working to contact all those impacted and refund any over payment. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"Simultaneously, a small percentage of customers have had a legitimate cancellation due to an issue with their payment provider. Our customer service team has been in touch with all customers affected to advise them accordingly on this issue.
"Metal Gear Solid V Standard Edition is still available for pre-order from GAME.”
MCV has gone back to GAME to try and get to the bottom of it all.
