US: Games market climbs by 43 per cent in 07

The US video games industry is sky-high following news of a bumper 2007 that saw total video game related sales for the year hit $17.94 billion – an increase of 43 per cent compared to the $12.53 million hit in 2006, according to figures from NPD.

Breaking the sectors down, video games hardware sales climbed by 54 per cent to reach $7.04 billion, with console hardware within that climbing 73 per cent to $5.12 billion. Portable games hardware sales valued $1.92 billion.

Software sales hit $8.64 billion, an increase of 34 per cent compared to 2006.
