Valve gives the nod for Gabe Newell boss fight in indie title Crawl

Developer Powerhoof has been given the nod to introduce Valve co-founder Gabe Newell into its new dungeon crawler Crawl.

As reported by Polygon, artist Barny Cumming said that the addition of Newell as one of the game’s bosses has been at the top of my list since the very start".

After the animation, which sees Newell transform into a dual-knife wielding monster, got some attention Cumming turned to Valve to ask for official permission. And they said yes.

Short sweet email from Valve today giving the go ahead for this silly thing,” the studio wrote on Twitter. Turns out Valve are cool – who knew?”

The update introducing Newell will be available very soon”. Crawl itself, meanwhile, is currently available on Steam Early Access for 6.99.
