Viacom: ‘Console game business requires skills we don’t have’

MTV Games parent Viacom says it doesn’ttheexpertise needed tocreate big-budget, successful console games.

The company, which bought Harmonix for $175m and is now looking to sell them, says the ‘console game business requires an expertise and scale that we do not have.’

Viacom has revealed it will be focusing on what it does best ‘making great branded entertainment content and delivering it through a variety of platforms.’

The statement came during the company’s investor call by COO Thomas Dooley.

Viacom owns MTV Games and Harmonix but sales have not met its expectations. MTV Games only opened its European office this year.
