Wii U’s Captain Toad release date pulled forward

Nintendo has moved forward the release date of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker a whole week.

The Wii U puzzler – a spin off of the critically acclaimed Super Mario 3D World – was originally due out on January 9th. It will now hit shelves on January 2nd.

We’re not entirely sure why it’s been moved forward. Some publishers try to push games in January for those consumers who may have just received new consoles for Christmas, and it is also a quieter period so the game is likely to get more attention.

Nintendo has released games on more unusual release days in the past. In 2009, it released 100 Classic Book Collection for DS on Boxing Day.

It will be interesting to see if it gets more attention as a result of its early date.
