Windows ‘Threshold’ update to strengthen ties to Xbox OS

Microsoft is planning to bring its Windows, Phone and Xbox operating systems closer together, a new report has claimed.

The company has typically preferred to keep its Xbox OS totally separate from Windows for fears of its console being branded an under the TV PC”.

But ZDnet has word of a new initiative called ‘Threshold’ that will include updates to all three OS platforms that will advance them in a way to share even more common elements”.

News of Threshold supposedly emerged from an internal email about plans for his unified operating-system engineering group” and refers to the wave of operating systems across Windows-based phones, devices and gaming consoles”.

So what is it actually all about? Microsoft apparently wishes to support the same core set of ‘high value activities’ across platforms” such as Office, documents and search.

This has lead some to speculate that the company’s Office suite could potentially make the move to Xbox One.
