XBLA Goldeneye was two months from completion

Those of you whose juices had begun to flow following

last week’s news

of a possible Xbox Live Arcade version of Rare’s celebrated N64 shooter Goldeneye should brace yourself for disappointment – the game has been canned.

1Up reports that the very real conversion was a mere two months from completion when Microsoft and Nintendo decided it would not be possible to resolve their differences.

The disagreement reportedly concerned whether Nintendo should receive a one-off payment for the licence or instead an ongoing share of any sales generated by the game.

Depressingly, the port, which would have boasted the same visuals, weapons and levels, was said to boast full online multiplayer on Microsoft’s network. The only omissions would have been a handful of characters for which licensing issues could not be resolved.
