Yu Suzuki could Kickstart Shenmue III

The Shenmue III dream is still alive.

When asked by Eurogamer whether he’d consider taking to crowdfunding site Kickstarter to finance a third entry in the Shenmue series, series creator Yu Suzuki answered: "Yes. I am researching it."

Of course, it would have to be a phenomenally successful Kickstarter to fund a project that matched the originals, which reportedly cost $70m to develop.

It was reported last month that Sega had lost the rights to the Shenmue IP due to its non-use” of the license.

Shenmue was released on Dreamcast in 1999 and was in 2001 followed by Shenmue II on both Dreamcast and Xbox. However, with sales of 1m and 400k units respectively, Sega then cancelled plans for the third game.
