11% of gamers own unplayed titles

A survey from North American gaming stats firm NPD has unveiled a number of interesting insights into the habits of gamers – including the fact that 11 per cent of gamers have titles on the shelf that are yet to be played.

Gamasutra reports that the survey, which was compiled by the Content Delivery and Storage Association and the Entertainment Merchants Association, polled 562 gamers who have all bought disc-based games in the last six months.

Other findings include the fact that 88 per cent of gamers keep their titles in their original casing whilst eight per cent store the discs separately from the cases. Five per cent throw out the packaging altogether.

Once a game is done with, 54 per cent of those polled said they would sell or trade-in a title. Amazingly, two per cent claimed to throw away unwanted games.

In packaged home entertainment, consumers view the packaging cases as part of the product and not something to be tossed," EMA CEO and president Bo Andersen stated. The cases provide product protection, allow easy title identification, and carry the artwork that is integral to the consumer’s association with the title.”
