Owners of older versions of the 3DS will be able to use Amiibos with their systems this autumn.
Nintendo's NFC Reader/Writer accessory will be released in Europe on October 2nd. It will arrive slightly earlier in the US on September 25th.
While the New 3DS and New 3DS XL comes with an integrated NFC chip reader, older versions of the handheld – as well as the 2DS – do not offer the same functionality. Instead, those wanting to make use of the NFC tech inside Amiibos will need this separate adapter.
The device requires two AA batteries, but works wirelessly and does not need to be plugged into the handheld.
With a $19.99 price tag in the US, expect it to retail for between 15-20.
