3DS now on the High Street for £115

Today’s the day when Nintendo hopes that thousands of consumers who have until now been sitting on the fence over 3DS will finally buy the handheld.

That’s because as of today the device has had a significant cut in trade price. But as is always the way with a big gaming launch, there’s big savings to be made for those who shop around.

Head and shoulders ahead of the opposition in terms of raw price is Tesco. MCV revealed yesterday that the supermarket would be selling new 3DS consoles for just 115.

And despite the chain’s refusal to confirm the price to MCV yesterday, as expected the 115 offer has been proven 100 per cent correct this morning.

Morrisons is next in line with its 120 offer. The supermarket is also selling all 3DS software for just 25 a piece.

Asda is selling it for 134.99 (and not 119.99 as was widely reported yesterday) while Sainsbury’s is charging 139.99.

GAME is asking 149.99 for the vanilla console though it also offers a bundle including a copy of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for 159.99. That same bundle is available on tis website for 154.99 and is part of the Play now Trade Later scheme, offering a guaranteed 150 in-store trade-in before August 25th. The online price for a 3DS is 139.99.

GAME will also sell you a new 3DS for just 99 when you trade in a DSi or DSi XL.

At the time of writing most online retailers have yet to update their 3DS prices. HMV is selling 3DS online for 139.99 while ShopTo has the device in stock for 134.86. Zavvi, meanwhile, is now selling 3DS for 129.85.

UPDATE 1:Two online retailers have gone live with their discounted prices. Firstly, Amazon has matched Tesco’s 115 price while Play.com has opted for a higher 139.99 price.

UPDATE 2: HMV hasgone for the "added value" rapproach with its 3DS offers. Customers who trade in an old DS can buy the 3DS from as little as 69.99 (trade-in prices are: DSi XL – 80, DSi – 50, DS Lite – 40). The console on its own will cost 149.99 but comes with one of the following games free –Ghost Recon, Rayman 3D, Asphalt 3D, Dinosaurs 3D, Rabbids 3D or Splinter Cell 3D.

UPDATE 3: We can now confirm more details on GAME’s trade-in deals. Those who trade-in a DSi XL can get a 3DS for 49.99 or the Zelda bundle for 59.99. For DSi that goes up to 89.99 and 99.99.

MCV will update this story throughout the day as more prices roll in.
