4oD targeting PS3 launch

Sony’s PS3 could be set to receive another online boost via the support of another major UK TV broadcaster, according to reports.

Channel 4 has reportedly already held talks with Sony over the possible introduction of its IPTV service 4oD on the PS3. Negotiations are said to be ongoing, with any possible deal likely a long way off.

We’re looking to launch on the PS3,” a ‘source at the broadcaster’ told Broadcast magazine, as reported by TechRadar. 4oD is becoming a platform agnostic product and will be successful because of the quality of the content.”

Channel 4 is also said to be working on an iPad app for its 4oD platform.

The PS3 has had great success with its dedicated iPlayer application and is also said to be in discussions with ITV over the possible integration of its digital TV service.

Rival Xbox 360 is still controversially without the iPlayer, though does boast a subscription-based content agreement with satellite broadcaster Sky.
