A trilogy of Tetris films is on the way

It appears that not one, not two, but three Tetris movies are coming the cinemas in the near future.

Deadline reports that the entry in this apparent series is going to cost $80m and is a co China-US production under Threshold Global Studios (Chinese media entrepreneur Bruno Wu and Mortal Kombat producer Larry Kasanoff’s new label).

Tetris: The Movie – described as a ‘sci-fi thriller’ – will be filmed in ‘China and other locations’ in 2017 with a Chinese ensemble cast. Deadline says that this is seen as the first part of a trilogy.

This news comes following the launch of two video game films – Ratchet & Clank and The Angry Birds Movie, while Warcraft and Assassin’s Creedmovies are hitting cinemas later this year.

The news that a Tetris movie was on the way broke in 2014, with the announcement that Threshold Entertainment and The Tetris Company were collaborating on an ‘epic science fiction’ movie based on the franchise.
