Activision publishing new Ghostbusters game, report claims

This year’s female-led Ghostbusters reboot will be accompanied by an Activision-published console title, it has been reported.

Retail Merchandiser claims, in an interview with Sony Pictures Consumer Products senior VP Mark Caplan, that a ‘full-fledged’ Ghostbusters game is on the way to PS4 and Xbox One with an expected release around the same time as the film in July.

The report doesn’t specify whether the title will feature the new Ghostbusters or the more traditional cast. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson previously starred in Atari’s licensed Ghostbusters title, released in 2009. The IP has a long gaming heritage stretching all the way back to 1984’s game of the same name. That was published by Activision, too.

The publisher has been getting its hands muddied with plenty of licensed titles recently including last year’s Transformers: Devastation and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, both of which are developed by Platinum.
