Activision reacquires King’s Quest rights, Telltale reboot canned

Activision has recovered the rights to the King’s Quest franchise from Telltale Games, as The Walking Dead developer has confirmed it is no longer working on anything related to rebooting the classic adventure series.

Steve Allison, Telltale’s Senior VP of publishing, toldDigital Trendsthat the studio returned the IP to Activision after deciding against outsourcing any potentail projects to a third party developer.

"While we deeply love King’s Quest here at Telltale, we can confirm that we are no longer working on the franchise,” Allison said. There was a time last year that we investigated partnering with third party developers to produce the game as a partnership but decided against outsourcing. We are not privy to what plans Activision has for the franchise, if any."

While it’s safe to assume Activision has plans beyond just shelving the series, the publisher has yet to mention anything officially.
