Amazon silent on games downloads

Online retail giant Amazon has refused to rule out the possibility of video games downloads becoming available on the site in the New Year.

Amazon launched its online music downloads service – a direct rival to iTunes – on December 3rd. Amazon MP3 sells tracks from 59p and albums from 3.

The store offers more than 3 million songs that will work on any digital music player, including iPod.

However, the company refused to be drawn on adding games to its digital product mix when contacted by MCV.

A spokesperson said:

"We’ve recently added downloadable music to the website – featuring some brilliant offers. But as far as any more downloadable entertainment being added to it, we can’t say anything. We never comment on things we might do in the future."

The firm bought casual games portal Reflexive in October.
