Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare could sell up to 15 per cent fewer copies than its predecessor Call of Duty: Ghosts, one analyst has predicted.

That would equate to around 17m sales in calendar Q4.

Cinemablend reports that Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia believes that gamers might be sceptical of Advanced Warfare because they were disappointed by Ghosts”, which had an average review score in the 70s across platforms.

Bhatia is also concerned about the sharp decline in last-gen software sales and the possible effect of buyer apprehension concerning an upgrade to next-gen consoles.

What makes him more optimistic, however, are the changes to this year's game, which could help go some way to address concerns of repetition in the franchise.

Plus there is also the big factor that with Battlefield: Hardline slipping back to 2015, Advanced Warfare lacks some of the high-profile competition that previous games faced – although with titles like Far Cry 4 and The Master Chief Collection on the horizon, it's not like it will have a clean run.
