It looks as if the rumours that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch were unfounded.
Speaking on Instagram, of all places, the game’s creative director Michel Ancel said that the title was not a Switch exclusive as far as I know”. Admittedly this is not a definitive statement, but if the man in charge isn’t aware of such a deal, one would presume said deal does not exist.
Indeed, the game’s official website asks for people to register their interest for either PS4, Xbox One or PC, although Ancel added that platform support for the title has definitely not yet been confirmed and that the site was "buggy".
One caveat to bear in mind, however, is that it sounds as if the E3 trailer represents the sum total of everything made thus far.
Speaking to The Verge, Ancel described the game’s current status as day zero of development”, adding: When you don’t have this technology, you can’t really start the game. It’s too difficult. But now we can say for sure that we will make this game, we’ll finish it. Because we have the technology for it.
There’s still a lot of work to do but we now really believe that we’re going to make this game.”
Ubisoft might be on the verge of forgetting the recent sales flops that were its Wii U exclusives by making one of its most anticipated titles a Nintendo Switch only release.
It was claimed over a year ago that Nintendo had apparently agreed to fund BG&E2’s development in exchange for exclusivity, in much the same way as it did with Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 2.
The working title was said to be Beyond Good and Evil: The Prejudices of Philosophers.
BGAE2 was first announced way back in 2008. Since then virtually nothing had been seen of it until this week, aside from repeated assurances from all involved that the game very much remained in development. It was claimed last year – once again –that it had been abandoned.
