Apple set for iPad Air 2 reveal on October 16th

The latest iteration of Apple’s iPad will likely be announced next week following confirmation of a media event.

The flyer being sent to journalists simply reads It’s been way too long”, leading to some speculation that perhaps the Apple TV might also be in line for a re-jig too.

There are plenty of rumours concerning Apple’s sixth generation tablet design, of course, which will most probably be called the iPad Air 2 and be available either before the end of the month or early November.

Inside Apple is odds-on to use the iPhone 6’s A8 processor alongside 1GB or 2GB of RAM, an 8GB rear camera and the now iPhone standard Touch ID fingerprint recognition. The resolution could very well stay in line with the current Air at 2048×1536.

What’s more certain is that the device will be slimmer than ever, mirroring the super-thin iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Recent rumours also reckon that Apple will do away with the side slide switch typically used to either silence the device or lock its orientation.

White, black and gold options (or silver, space grey and gold as Apple now refers to them) are also likely, as are 16GB, 64Gb and 128GB configurations – which, like the iPhone 6, would mean an end to the 32GB offer.

Wilder rumours suggest Apple is preparing a 12.9-inch model called the iPad Pro to sit alongside its 9.7-inch iPad Air design and 7.9-inch iPad Mini. There has also been talk of a stylus-friendly pressure sensitive display.
