Assassin’s Creed soundtracks coming to CD and vinyl

The musical scores from Ubisoft’s historical stealth-action series Assassin’s Creed are coming to physical formats for the first time later this year.

The publisher has teamed up with licensing partnerSumthing Else Music Works to release the soundtracks from all of the core console entries in the franchise so far on CD, starting on September 25th.

Vinyl pressings of the music from ‘select’ Assassin’s Creed games will follow in 2016, Sumthing Else revealed to MCV.

The following worldwide CD releases have been confirmed so far, with further announcements said to be in the works:

  • Assassin’s Creed – Original Soundtrack (Music by Jesper Kyd)
  • Assassin’s Creed II – Original Soundtrack (2-CD) (Music by Jesper Kyd)
  • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – Original Soundtrack (Music by Jesper Kyd)
  • Assassin’s Creed Revelations: The Complete Recordings (3-CD) (Music by Jesper Kyd and Lorne Balfe)
  • Assassin’s Creed III – Original Soundtrack (Music by Lorne Balfe)
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Original Soundtrack (Music by Brian Tyler) (Set for release in October)
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity – Original Soundtrack (Music by Chris Tiltonand Sarah Schachner)(Set for release in October)

Although the scores have been available in digital forms for a while, Sumthing Else will be the first company to bring the titles’ music to physical mediums – a move that may raise some eyebrows given the digital-focused nature of both the music and games businesses today.

When selecting what music to release physically, a game’s popularity is very important – as is the composer who created the score,” responded Gregory Ferraiolo, VP for licensing and business development at Sumthing Else.

Assassin’s Creed is a huge franchise with a very loyal fan base and the music is fantastic, so in our opinion, releasing these titles on CD is a must.

Additionally, we maintain strong ties to the composer community, so we know from composer Jesper Kyd that his fans have been requesting a CD release of his Assassin’s Creed music scores for a long time.”

Sumthing ElsepresidentAndy Uteranoadded: We’re excited to be working with Ubisoft in bringing their physical product and line-up of artists and titles to the worldwide marketplace.”
