‘Ball rolling’ on Command and Conquer remaster for 25th anniversary

EA has the wheels in motion on a Command & Conquer remaster to tie in with the original game’s 25 anniversary, which will arrive in 2020.

Posting on Reddit, Jim Vessella, creative director at EA and staffer on Command & Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 – as well as lead producer on Kane’s Wrath, a C&C 3 expansion – said the company had been exploring ideas surrounding potential remasters, and the ball was indeed rolling. No specific game/s were mentioned, but Vessella put the word out for community input on these potential projects.

“As most of you may know, we recently announced Command & Conquer: Rivals, a mobile game set in the Command & Conquer universe.,” he wrote, “Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the Command & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC. And as a fan of C&C for over 20 years, I couldn’t agree more. With that in mind we’ve been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary.”

No specifics are forthcoming beyond that and the fact any remaster will not feature added microtransactions, and that they will focus on compatibility with modern systems. Elements like a balance toggle are discussed in the thread, though this is all very early days.

As long as Joe Kucan returns and re-records his original Kane sections in glorious HD, plenty of folks are sure to be happy.
