Batman Arkham Knight Batmobile Edition cancelled due to ‘quality compromise’

An ultra-premium version of the next Batman title has been pulled days before the game’s release.

The Batman Arkham Knight Batmobile Edition was the highest-tier offering available for Warner Bros’ upcoming superhero adventure, with a price tag of 169.99.

What does that cost amount to? Well, those willing to stump up the cash would have been set to receive an 80-page art book, unique SteelBook case, limited edition Arkham Knight #0 comic book and exclusive skin pack.

The jewel in the Batmobile Edition’s cowl, however, was a transforming statue of the titular vehicle. Given that all of the previous listed items were also available in the 90 Limited Edition of the game, the figurine alone amounted to around 80 of value.

But now die-hards fans won’t be getting anything, as retailer GAME has issued an email stating that Warner Bros has decided to withhold the bundle from sale.

In the statement, circulated on NeoGaf, GAME says that the last-minute change is due to unforeseen circumstances that greatly compromised the quality of the Batmobile included within the Batman Arkham Knight Batmobile Edition”.

It also promises to return money laid down for the pre-orders, plus 20 in store credit.

Given that the Limited Edition appears to be sold out, fans stung by the absent Batmobile Edition can opt instead for the 50 Red Hood Edition of Arkham Knight.

But they’d better get their orders in quick – Batman Arkham Knight is due out next Tuesday, June 23rd.
