Batman: Arkham Origins has been officially unveiled by Game Informer magazine, but the third Arkham game will be developed by Warner Bros Montreal, not Rocksteady Studios.

Arkham Origins is being developed for PC and current-gen consoles, which probably means that Rocksteady is working on a next-gen project.

As the name suggests, Arkham Origins will take place before Arkham Asylum. It will feature a young Batman, who will encounter several iconic characters from the DC universe for the very first time. The back cover of the Game Informer issue features Deathstroke, who will make his Arkham game debut in Origins.

Warner Bros Montreal will create the game using Rocksteady's custom modified Unreal engine”, and this will be the first of the three games to be set in Gotham City.

The Arkham Origins development team will be headed by creative director Eric Holmes, who previously helmed open-world games such as The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype.

Batman: Arkham Origins is set for release on 25th October for Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

On the very same day, Warner Bros will also release the first Arkham handheld game - Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for 3DS and PS Vita.

Developed by Armature Studio, Blackgate will take place after the events of Arkham Origins. Unlike the PC and home console release, this will be a 2.5D exploration action game.
