Battlefield 1943 out next week

The next instalment in DICE’s popular multiplayer war series Battlefield 1943 will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 next week, publisher EA has confirmed.

Xbox 360 owners will get a one-day head start of their PlayStation rivals when the game arrives on Xbox Live on July 8th, priced at 1200 Microsoft Points (around 10). The PS3 version will hit PSN a day later for 9.99.

Battlefield 1943 is going to change consumer expectations of what a downloadable game can be,” the game’s producer Gordon Van Dyke.

By offering Frostbite’s next generation destruction technology with a full Vehicle Warfare FPS multiplayer experience at a mere 560MB, Battlefield 1943 sets a new standard.

Our goal is to blow people away with a fully accessible, retail-caliber game for veteran Battlefield fans and shooter fans alike to enjoy for only 9.99.”

Last week saw the release of the series’ first browser-based free-to-play instalment, Battlefield Heroes.
