BioWare considering Mass Effect MMO?

The makers of Mass Effect have reiterated that the upcoming third instalment won’t have multiplayer, but the idea of an MMO appeals to them.

In an interview with Game Informer, the series’ executive producer Casey Hudson said that BioWare has yet to find a way to bring traditional multiplayer to the franchise, according to VG247. But he does believe an Mass Effect MMO would work well.

A lot of people say that they want to see an MMO, I think that kind of makes sense for this universe,” said Hudson. Part of what you’re trying to do is save the universe so you can live in it. That’s part of the promise, I think, for any great IP. It has to be a world worth saving.

I think Mass Effect has that quality to it. If you get rid of the Reapers and win that, wouldn’t it be amazing to just live on the Citadel or just take ship to Omega? That makes sense.”

BioWare is currently working on another sci-fi MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is due for release this year. Mass Effect 3 will arrive on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC around Christmas.
