Bohemia claims arrested employees in Greece a misunderstanding

Bohemia Interactive CEO Marek Spanel has responded to yesterday’s report that two employees had been arrested in Greece for allegedly capturing footage of a military facility in Lemnos and Agios Efstratios.

Spanel claimed that the two staff members were simply enjoying the surroundings on vacation, adding that the development studio creates its titles on public information alone.

We can confirm that two Bohemia Interactive employees, our colleagues and friends, were arrested during their holiday trip to Lemnos. They visited the island with the sole purpose of experiencing the island’s beautiful surroundings,” Spanel explained in an official statement on the ArmA III forums.

Since its establishment in 1999, Bohemia Interactive has created games based only upon publicly available information. We always respect the law and we’ve never instructed anybody to violate the laws of any country. The same is true for Arma 3.”

Bohemia is hopeful the misunderstanding can be resolved in a swift and safe manner for those involved, but it’s clear there are still too many unknowns in play at the moment to predict how the situation will work itself out.

Currently, all our effort goes towards supporting the guys over there, as well as their friends and families affected by this difficult situation. We sincerely hope that this is an unfortunate misunderstanding of their passion as artists and creators of virtual worlds.”
