After a tough year in 2016, the Call of Duty is comeback is now complete as WWII racks up the No.1 slot on PS4, Xbox One and All Platforms in the US for 2017. Those charts reflect dollar sales in both physical and full game digital sales across practically all major platforms, providing a great indication of the actual market - so congratulations to Activision on its huge success.

While in the UK we have only FIFA, the US splits its virtual sports between basketball and american football. Take-Two's NBA 2K18 comes in second for the year, while Madden NFL 18 is fourth.

Between those sits Destiny 2 in third, and that placing is depsite Activision not sharing its PC sales data from Battle.net. The game clocked up the biggest day of digital sales on the PlayStation Store to date when it launched, and with these combined charts we can see just how big the title was - another great win for Activision.

Across the whole year it was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that took the crown on the Nintendo Switch, unsurprisingly given its critical strength and availability since launch. Though looking at just the December figures Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart were making up ground fast. They also appeared in the Top 10, simply telling us that yes Nintendo had a great year.

The rest of the Top 10 was made up with Star Wars: Battlefront II - which probably isn't entirely comfortable with its No.8 spot (even excluding Origin digital PC sales). Ubisoft will be far happier with the return of Ghost Recon with Wildlands in No.7 and finally, of course there's GTA V, a second title for Take-Two in the Top 10 and a springboard for greater profits in GTA Online that aren't accounted for here.

All of that accounted for a six per cent rise in software sales in the US over 2017 - as reported by NPD last night.
