Capcom has licensed Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 for its upcoming cross-platform PS4 and PC fighting game sequel Street Fighter V.
The two companies announced the news earlier today in a joint press release. Support staff from both Epic Games Japan and Epic’s headquarters in Cary, North Carolina, will assist in Street Fighter V’s development team get the most out of the engine.
"Our goal with the next generation of Street Fighter is to take our beloved fighting game franchise and bring it to our fans in the best way possible," Capcom producer Bochan Kim said. "In order to fully deliver on that promise, we know we have to incorporate the latest and greatest technology available, which is why we partnered with Epic Games to power Street Fighter V using Unreal Engine 4."
"This opportunity to help the development team using Unreal Engine 4 for the new title is a great honor for Epic, and I couldn’t be more proud," Epic Games Japan territory manager Taka Kawasaki added.
Capcom officially revealed Street Fighter V earlier this month for PlayStation 4 and PC – but not Xbox One – platforms.
