Capcom turns fan-made crossover game into free official release

Capcom has revealed a community-friendly development for fans of the Mega Man and Street Fighter franchises.

The publisher will celebrate the end of Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary, as well as the beginning of Mega Man’s 25th anniversary, with the free official release of a fan-made crossover effort that brings the two series together.

Entitled Street Fighter X Mega Man, the platformer pits the robot character against Street Fighter’s cast of brawlers. It was made by Seow Zong Hui with music composed by A_Rival, with feedback and approval provided from Capcom.

There’s been more than one instance in the past few years where a publisher has made the move to squash, rather than embrace, cool fan-made tributes. It’s nice to see Capcom exploring an avenue that seems a win for everyone.

Street Fighter X Mega Man will release for PC as a free download on December 17th.
