Is gaming finally getting a decent, grown-up national TV show in the UK?
Almost 15 years after Dominic Diamond graced our screens on GamesMaster, it has been confirmed Guardian columnist Charlie Brooker is working on a new TV show called Gameswipe which is being produced by Endemol-owned Zeppotron.
Brooker was formerly a games journalist for PC Zone, and is best known for his work as The Guardian’s TV critic and the creator of zombie series Dead Set. He was also a judge at this year’s video game BAFTAs.
The journalist asked his Twitter followers on Wednesday night to submit ideas for the ‘worst videogame bosses ever’.
He said: "Worst videogame bosses ever? Email yr suggestions to gameswipe at zeppotron dot com. Make what you will of that email address."
Endemol and Zeppotron have since confirmed that Gameswipe is being made, but have said that ‘production is currently closed’. No other information was made available.
Brooker had previously turned his Guardian Screen Burn column into the lauded Screenwipe – a show talking about TV – and recently produced Newswipe, which looks at news reporting. It’s assumed that Gameswipe will follow the same incisive and irreverent take on video games.
