China’s mobile market on pace to surpass US in size – report

China’s mobile gaming market is nearing the same size as America’s market and growing at a significantly faster rate, a new report from research firm Superdata has revealed.

Games Industry highlights Superdata’s research, which projects Chinese mobile gaming will bring in $3bn in revenue this year – the US is expected to earn around $3.2bn during 2014.

Mobile spending is still growing in the US, but Superdata states the market is beginning to show signs of saturation.” China’s mobile revenue total is expected to double this year, while the US is only expecting a 7 per cent increase.

The company emphasized that mobile publishers in both markets must improve monetization mechanics and appealing to their most lucrative audiences,” in order to stay on top of an increasingly competitive and ubiquitously free-to-play market.”
