Paradox Interactive is celebrating the first birthday of city builder Cities: Skylines by announcing a highly impressive sales milestone.
The game has in its first year sold over 2m units worldwide. It's the fastest selling game the company has ever released. It previously sold 250k units on its first day, and would have been UK No.1 had digital sales have been factored into the official charts.
Our team is floored by the response players have had to Cities: Skylines and by the level of success the game has achieved in such a short time,” CEO of developer Colossal Order Mariina Hallikainen said.
We knew that trying to create a city-building game with such a small team was an ambitious project, but we'd been working towards that goal ever since the first Cities in Motion title, and we knew, if given the chance, that we could make it happen. A year ago, we achieved that goal, and the results have been nothing short of incredible. We've got so much more in store for all two million of our players, and I want to thank each and every one of them.”
Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester added: The remarkable thing about our fans for Cities: Skylines isn't just their number, but how active they are in keeping the game growing and changing.
Giving the modding community the keys to our cities has resulted in so much passion and creativity. As of this month there are over 76,000 pieces of mod content on Steam Workshop for Cities: Skylines, from custom buildings to new road designs and beyond. Together with Colossal Order we intend to keep supporting this game and our players with more updates and content of our own for a long time.”
Paradox has also announced some free DLC for the game. A landscaping update will arrive on March 22nd, allowing players to alter the formation of their cities and add features such as canals and quays.
