Club Penguin taps into Avengers boom

Disney’s Club Penguin has been invaded by Marvel Super Heroes.

The hit kids virtual world hopes to tap into the Avengers boom by letting players in its online game dress up as iconic Marvel characters – including Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Loki.

Club Penguin is one of the most popular kids properties in video games.

The Marvel activity will include the island being transformed to look like destinations from a superhero movie, the chance for players to dress as Marvel characters and the chance to defend or defeat the ‘evil Destructobot’.

The activity runs from June 14th to July 3rd.

Club Penguin co-founder and VP of Disney Online Studios Lane Merrifield said: "Everyone wants to feel special and believe that they can do something that no one else can do. That optimism is what drives both Club Penguin and the Marvel story lines and characters. Club Penguin and Marvel characters are the perfect match, and I’m sure our players will love it!"

EVP of Marvel Entertainment Rob Steffens added: Bringing our worlds together marks a major milestone for both Marvel and Club Penguin. Reactions from the fans are already tremendous, and we’re thrilled that we’re able to bring Marvel and Club Penguin together for such an epic event.”
