Codemasters celebrating F1 triumph

As predicted by one national retailer in secret last week, F1 2010 has fought off some heavyweight rivals to claim top spot in the ELSPA GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 this week – and Codemasters is over the moon.

To do so it had to outperfom new releases such as Dead Rising 2, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Civilization V – as well as last week’s number one Halo Reach.

That it succeeded in doing so, and even managed to outsell Halo Reach and Dead Rising combined, is a huge testament to the publisher’s belief in what has historically been a sticky franchise in the world of video games.

We had a good feeling about F1 2010, seeing the anticipation and excitement building for the title has been great but to have it realised with such immense success at launch weekend is simply incredible,” VP of publishing EMEA Jeremy Wigmore told MCV.

All credit to the team at Codemasters Birmingham, they recognised the importance of F1 and the how important it was to create and deliver a game that resets the bar for F1 gaming experiences.

We’ve had immense support from all areas of the company, our distribution and retail partners and offer celebratory thanks to everyone who played a part in this superb result.”
