The winners of the first ever Smite World Championships have been crowned, with American team COG Prime scooping the $1.3m prize.
The US team bettered European rivals Titan in the final, although the losers still pocketed $522,452 thanks to the colossal $2.5m prize pool developer Hi-Rez Studios had previously raised via crowdfunding.
COG Prime actually raced ahead to a 2-0 lead in the best of five match, with the second match finishing 17 kills to one. Titan fought back to level at 2-2, however, leading to a tense conclusion – which you can see in the video below.
Hi-Rez has already started prepping for Smite's second official season, with new maps and a visual overhaul for the game incoming. The game already has over 5m registered players.
Smite will also be entering closed beta on Xbox One early this year, it has been confirmed, with a full release planned in the first half of the year.
