D3Publisher has acquired the rights to publish games based on DreamWorks movie IPs, following THQ's retreat from the sector.
As part of the deal, D3P will develop and publish games based on upcoming DreamWorks films Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (due June), Rise of the Guardians (holiday 2012) and The Croods (spring 2013).
The news comes after THQ, which previously had a deal with DreamWorks, said it would move away from the licensed children's video game sector.
Namco Bandai will be publishing the upcoming DreamWorks video games at retail. The publisher has a 95 per cent stake in D3P.
The upcoming video games based on the DreamWorks Animation films truly fit our commitment to making fun games that are enjoyable and accessible for the whole family, across many platforms and handhelds,” said D3P's VP of business development and licensing Bill Anker.
Chris Hewish, the head of DreamWorks Animation's global interactive division, added: D3Publisher has a wealth of experience in both the creative development and marketing of family friendly licensed games. This, along with their proven track record, makes them an ideal interactive partner for our next three films.”
