Deep Silver sets up digital team

iPad, XBLA and browser games are on the way from Koch’s Deep Silver label.

The publishing outfit has revealed to MCV that it is actively expanding its business to include downloaded and online titles – alongside its successful boxed goods business.

The future is going to be both online and offline – we believe in a combination of both,” explained Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz.

Deep Silver is absolutely committed as a European publishing label, with pan-European reach through Koch Media. So our commitment to retail is unquestionable. But we’re setting ourselves up for the next transition phase this industry faces.”

Deep Silver has formed a team to secure digital-only games it signs from developers or those it commissions itself.

We are developing XBLA and PSN games, are interested in iPad and iPhone titles and we are working on browser game opportunities as well,” said Kundratitz.

We do not want to shy away from online – it is an opportunity we will grasp as a publisher.”

Ultimately Deep Silver wants to grow its roster of owned IPs. It is readying multiplatform racer Nail’d for release in October, and at Gamescom last month announced plans to publish Risen 2 and Sacred 3.

Kundratitz added: They are both big IPs for us and there is more to follow. Our normal stable of products will continue to grow, and we are still committed to licensed games at retail, while we grow our digital offering.”
