Deus Ex: The Fall skips next-gen in favour of mobiles and tablets

Square Enix teased us yesterday with talk of a new Deus Ex instalment, but it might not be what you expected.

As reported yesterday, the next game in the series will be called Deus Ex: The Fall. However, it will not be released for home consoles and PC – instead it is in development for smartphones and tablets.

Like 2011’s excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Fall is a story-driven action RPG set in a cyberpunk world of human augmentations.

The game is a sequel to the previous title’s prequel novel, Deus Ex: Icarus Effect, putting players in the hefty boots of ex-SAS soldier turned mercenary Ben Saxon, who is on the run from the Tyrants, the heavily-augmented characters that were Human Revolution’s bosses.

Deus Ex: The Fall is being developed by Square Enix Mobile in collaboration with Eidos Montreal, the creators of Human Revolution, and N-Fusion.

It will be released this summer for 4.99, and will be shown off at E3.
