Capcom is on a roll! The Japanese firm has just claimed its second UK No.1 of 2019, with Devil May Cry 5 debuting at the top the weekly charts, a few months after Resident Evil 2’s strong launch.
Sales were down compared to 2008’s Devil May Cry 4 with the new entry shifting 66 per cent less physical copies than the PS3 and 360 title. But 2008 was a different era and Devil May Cry 5 would have sold much more digitally than its predecessor. Launch sales for the title were on a par with the 2013 reboot, with physical sales only down two per cent compared to 2013’s DmC: Devil May Cry. We can safely assume these two per cent have been largely covered by digital sales, so it’s a good performance overall for Capcom.
The rest of the charts haven’t changed much, with the only other new entry being Square Enix’s Left Alive at No.39.
In the Top Ten, Red Dead Redemption 2 climbed three spots to No.2 following a three per cent increase in sales, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe took No.3.
Last week’s No.1, EA’s Anthem, fell to No.4 with a 62 per cent drop in sales.
Overall, the market was down ten per cent week-on-week in units and eight per cent in value. In terms of revenue, it’s on a par with last year though, with the market only being down 2.7 per cent year-on-year.
