DICE: We wont charge for maps

The studio behind the successful Battlefield franchise has said that it never wants to charge gamers for post-release map DLC.

We don’t ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together,” DICE’s senior producer Patrick Bach told Xbox World 360, as reported by CVG.

We’re owned by EA but we’re still very much DICE.”

Bach added that DICE has generous” amounts of DLC planned for recent release Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

The claims are all the more notable following Activision’s decision to charge what some saw as a quite hefty 10.20 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s recent DLC, which comprised five multiplayer maps.

How well the news will be received by EA – whose boss John Riccitiello recently outlined his ambitions to radically up the revenue made from post-release digital content – is yet to be seen.
