Disgruntled former SCEA PR man lets rip on Twitter

This should be read with a very notable disclaimer – ex-employees are often not the best barometer of their former employer’s strategy.

And with that in mind, former Sony America PR man Will Powers embarked on what can only be described as a Twitter rant, slamming Sony for its current PlayStation strategy.

You have to wonder what the hell PlayStation was thinking laying off more than half of their software PR team going into the holiday season,” he wrote.

In typical fashion they’re sending titles out to die because they have no PR support – LBPK, Sports Champions 2, Wonderbook.

You have to question the priorities of the company as a whole – what [is] the point of AdHoc multiplayer when no-one has a Vita? Sony in general is serving too many masters. Each company should operate autonomously. PlayStation shouldn’t suffer because TVs are overpriced.”

In the sake of fairness it’s worth countering some of Powers’ points.

It’s unfair to say that products such as Wonderbook have been sent out to die”. Sony, in the UK at least, has great plans for the peripheral. And while the launch splash may be smaller than what some of Sony’s rivals would plan, the support will continue for longer than normal. Wonderbook is a long-term project that Sony is most certainly taking very seriously.

And the criticism of Sony’s corporate structure is unrealistic – plain and simple – and belies and fundamental lack of understanding.

Nonetheless, here’s the rant in full courtesy of Kotaku:
