Dota tournament The Defense returns on Danish TV

The original Dota 2 international tournament, The Defense, makes its return with a live television broadcast contract.

The tournament, which began in 2011 organised by joinDOTA, has returned after a two year hiatus with a $75,000 base prize pool and televised games.

Over ten weeks, Danish channel TV 2 ZULU will broadcast select matches with native language commentary provided by former pro players and now joinDOTA analysts Jacob "Maelk" Toft-Andersen and Troels "SyndereN" Nielsen.

Other members of the joinDOTA production house, including Toby "TobiWan" Dawson, Austin "Capitalist" Walsh, Gareth "Durka" Bateson and William "Blitz" Lee will handle the international livestream via Twitch.

The ZULU eSports program is advertiser funded and partly sponsored by the largest Danish vendor of sports-betting games, Danske Spil.

The original tournament did much to prove Dota’s ability to succeed as an eSport and entertainment product, it seems fitting further strides are being made by the same organiser.

At TV 2 ZULU we focus on the most trending themes among our young viewers," said Sune Roland, head of TV at the Danish broadcaster. "eSports is the fastest growing sport in the world and we would like to create a show, where our audience can experience the world of eSports in a Danish setting and with Danish commentators."
