Train simulator specialist Dovetail is branching out into the flight sim sector.
The company, which rebranded from RailSimulator.com to Dovetail last year and last week announced plans to dabble in fishing, has licensed Microsoft’s flight simulator tech.
This doesn’t mean Dovetail will be making future Microsoft Flight Simulator titles as it instead intends to launch its own sim brand, which it hopes to bring to market in 2015.
It will, however, take on distribution duties for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Gold Edition on Steam which will be rebranded as Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.
I am delighted to be working in partnership with Microsoft as part of this agreement,” Dovetail CEO Paul Jackson said.
We are thrilled to be exploring new flight simulation opportunities using Microsoft’s technology, and look forward to using our extensive expertise of Steam publishing to successfully bring Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition to a broad new audience on the Steam platform. This partnership is perfectly timed to support our expansion into new areas of simulation.”
