DreamHack brings $40,000 eSports Open to London in September

DreamHack, the originally Swedish LAN party that has evolved into a premiere stop on the eSports calendar, is coming to London’s Copper Box in September.

The weekend of the 19-20 September marks the first time DreamHack has set foot in the UK, making the country the seventh outside of their native Sweden.

DreamHack is known for holding major Open tournaments for several eSports games, including StarCraft II, Dota and Hearthstone.

At the London event, taking place in Hackney Wick’s 7,000-seater Olympic venue, the premiere title will be Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – a game the UK has a decent history in, though current teams are lacking.

Eventbrite has partnered with DreamHack for the London leg of their Open tour, and will handle ticket sales for the event. The online ticket seller will also help British gamers find DreamHack via Eventbrite’s event discovery pages and apps for iOS and Android.

DreamHack’s expansion beyond Swedish borders can’t be done without strong partners with knowledge about our audience and fans,” said Marcus Lindmark, CEO of DreamHack AB. With a global community translating to local events, the collaboration between DreamHack and Eventbrite could therefore not be any more fitting. Together we can now offer the World’s best eSports shows to an even bigger audience.”

Teams who qualify for the event, which also features an Expo component for non-competitors, will be fighting for a prize pool of $40,000.

Gaming is one of the strongest growing event categories on Eventbrite”, said Limvirak Chea, Eventbrite’s VP of business development in EMEA. We help bring the gaming community together at many of the largest gaming and eSports events worldwide, and we know from talking to gamers around the world that they want more events, more often, and in more places. Which is why we are happy to help bring yet another high quality event to the British gaming community.”
