E3 2011: Wii U console and controller sold together

Nintendo’s new Wii U tablet-like controller and HD console will be sold as a single unit.

Both the controller and the console will be sold as one unit. You won’t be able to buy the controller alone,” a Nintendo spokesperson told CVG at E3.

The Wii U’s iPad-like controller has motion control, touch sensitivity, dual analog sticks, traditional button layout and supports HD visuals.

It’s not yet known whether more than one Wii U controller can be synced with the new system.

CVG were told that multiplayer games being created for the system are only being designed to accommodate one Wii U controller, whilst other players will need to use Wii Remotes.

Nintendo announced the Wii U yesterday at its E3 press conference in Los Angeles.

It was supported by a flurry of developer and publisher endorsements, including Ken Levine of Irrational Games, EA, THQ, Ubisoft and Warner Bros.

The new system will work with all existing Wii games and Wii accessories and is due to arrive next year.
