EA confirms restructuring job losses; Hundreds feared to have been cut

Publisher EA has confirmed an an organisational restructure” that is feared to have led to hundreds of job losses.

In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile,” an official statement read. This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees – those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends.

These are hard but essential changes as we focus on delivering great games and showing players around the world why to spend their time with us.”

Polygon adds that word from two sources close to proceedings reckon the losses now stretch to the hundreds and affecting every facet of the company.

It is also understood that two studios – PopCap Vancouver and Quicklime Studio – have been closed.

It’s not the first round of layoffs announced by the publisher this year.

Furthermore, just this morning it was rumoured that EA is to close its EA Partners publishing label. These rumours have also been confirmed by Polygon. The Partners initiative led to the release of some of EA’s most recognised titles including Crysis 2 and 3, The Orange Box, Bulletstorm and Shank.
