EA Montreal and LA branches suffer unspecified number of layoffs

EA has announced the letting go of some” staff from the publisher's LA and Montreal studios.

Earlier today, EA Labels president Fran Gibeau issued the following statement on the firm's website:

EA's leadership on these high-growth platforms allows us to retain and attract the industry's best talent. Thousands of our existing employees have been retrained and redeployed to work on the new platforms and initiatives. But when it is not possible to redeploy a team, we soften the tough decisions with assistance. This week we let some people go in Los Angeles, Montreal as well as in some smaller locations. These are good people and we have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease their transition to a new job.”

Gibeau did not specify the specific number of layoffs, nor did he mention any of the affected studio's directly by name. That has no bearing on EA Montreal, the publisher's only presence in the city; but does come into play with Los Angeles, where EA has both Medal of Honor developer Danger Close and Bioware Victory located in the area.

EA Montreal is currently developing Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, alongside Visceral Games.
