EA wants to gauge interest in possible women’s football inclusion in future FIFA titles

You think that women’s football should be a feature of future FIFA titles? Then let EA know.

That’s the message from the publisher, whose GM of Sports Matt Bilby told Polygon that the company first looked into the possibility five years ago, only to discover that there was little interest.

However, he says that there are signs that this might be changing.

"There’s interest in women’s US national teams,” he added. There’s last year’s big Canada versus US match during the Olympics, there’s the Women’s World Cup taking place in Canada."

Such attention, he says, has made it "a lot likelier" that the women’s game will be included at some stage in the future.

While the commercial importance of the inclusion of licenses such as the FA Women’s Super League, the FA Women’s Premier League and the FIFA Women’s World Cup is certainly an important question for EA, there’s no denying that the women’s game has never enjoyed as much coverage or attention as it does at the moment.

Coverage of women’s football post Olympics has seen a notable increase – despite England’s pitiful showing at this summer’s Euro 2013 – and this week’s big news that long-term England Women’s manager Hope Powell has been sacked by the FA was breaking news across the country’s many sports networks.
